Care of Granite - Honed

Your investment is a lasting one and with care will continue to look as beautiful and elegant as the day it is installed

Polishing & sealing

Honed granite is more porous than polished granite. We apply a seal during the hand-crafted manufacture to assist protection of your investment. Regular use of a granite care spray will lift any dull appearances. We recommend professional resealing every two years thereafter for best long term protection.

Granite is easy to clean. Use clean, hot soapy water, rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. Gentle use of a plastic scotchbrite pad or similar can be used for any food residues that cannot be removed easily.

Granite is a very durable product. Avoid hitting with anything blunt or heavy as this can cause chips and cracks. Avoid sitting, standing or placing heavy items on unsupported areas.

Preventing scratching

Granite is scratch resistant. Very hard substances including diamonds, gemstones and tungsten may mark. We recommend the use of a chopping board.

Preventing heat damage

Granite is heat resistant and moderate temperatures will not affect the stone. Extreme temperatures may damage the granite therefore we recommend use of a heat pad or a trivet with rubber feet.

Preventing staining

Honed granite will stain with continued liquid contact. Wipe up spills immediately to prevent staining. Exposure to the following substances will mark granite: rusted tins, vinegar, alcohol, beetroot, sauces, acids, margarine and oils including splatters from the stove. This risk can be averted with prompt cleaning.
